Since the 1940’s, thousands of children in Glendale, regardless of religious affiliation, have enjoyed playing CYO sports representing Sacred Heart. Every one of the teams were coached by volunteers. To this day, 100% of coaches and administrators are volunteers. The only paid staff are game officials and scorekeepers.
We continue to be very fortunate to have a great team of volunteers who continue to serve years beyond when their children or grandchildren participated in the program. We also rely heavily on parents and family members of current athletes to coach, manage league administration and work in the gym.
YOU DON’T NEED TO KNOW SPORTS TO HELP!
Although coaches should know enough about their sports to help children improve personally and competitively as a team, there are lots of opportunities to volunteer that are not direct coaching positions.

- Concession supply shoppers
- and of course Coaches & Assistant Coaches!
Volunteering with Sacred Heart Youth Program is great for parents and especially grandparents who may be retired and looking for a fulfilling way to put your skills to work. If you are interested in volunteering or know someone who may be, please let us know! The pay includes good times, lots of happy children’s smiles and a hot dog during games.

Volunteers are required to complete the VIRTUS training and background check. The training makes participants aware of the signs of child sexual abuse, the methods and means by which offenders commit abuse, and five easy steps one can use to prevent child sexual abuse.
