The CYO of the Diocese of Brooklyn will conduct its initial Free Throw Shooting Contest during the week of February 15, 2021.
Preliminary rounds will be at multiple sites from 2/15-2/18.
These are:
- St Columba- M, T, W, TH 2-6
- St. Camillus- M, T, W, TH 4-8
- Corpus Christi- T, TH 2-6
- Diocesan Finals will be on Sunday 2/21 at Our Lady of Angels 1-5
Competition will be organized by age and gender as follows:
- Intermediate-born in 2007
- Rookie-born in 2008
- Bantam-born in 2009
- Novice-born in 2010 or later
Entry fee is $20 by check payable to CYO and includes contest participation and a t-shirt.
Entry Form must be received by Wednesday 2/10.
Participants will be notified by email on Thursday 2/11

Contest rules and procedures:
- All participants will be assigned a site and time to shoot their free throws.
- Participant must provide own ball.
- Participant must be accompanied by 1 (only) adult.
- Adult may be a sibling that is at least 16.
- Participant and adult must arrive at site together and may then enter and check in no earlier than 5 minutes before the scheduled time.
- Participant and adult must be masked at arrival.
- Following check in, the participant may warm up in any manner he/she chooses, at the basket opposite of the basket being used for the contest.
- Participant may remove mask at this time.
- At the participant’s scheduled time, he/she will come to the contest basket and will have 5 minutes to shoot 20 free throws.
- The accompanying adult will rebound and return the ball to the participant after each shot.
- The site manager will record the tally of made shots for each participant.
- Participant and accompanying adult must remask and depart immediately upon completion of free throws.
Top 3 highest scores in each division will advance to the finals. If there are ties involving more than 3 qualifying, a semi-final round will be scheduled on Saturday 2/20.
All those advancing to the finals (or semifinals) will be notified by email on Friday 2/19.
These rules and procedures will minimize contact and allow this to occur safely and in accordance with NYS DOH guidelines.
At any one time, there will only be the following personnel in the room(gym):
- Site manager-masked at all times
- Site receptionist (at door for check in-masked at all times)
- Participant shooting free throws and accompanying adult- masked upon arrival and departure
- Participant warming up and accompanying adult-masked upon arrival and departure
We will schedule 12 participants/hour/site/day= 48 per 4 hour session.
Based on our 10 available sessions, we can accept approximately 500 participants.
